Last evening, (Dec 1, 2014) I had the great pleasure of performing with the Neufeld Occhipinti Jazz Orchestra at The Rex Hotel and Jazz Bar in Toronto. NOJO is a 16 piece ensemble that performs original charts composed by co-leaders Paul Neufeld and Michael Occhipinti.

Last night we performed all the charts from the band’s JUNO nominated album entitled You are Here.  Many of the original musicians were on hand for the gig and the charts sound as fresh today as when we first performed them over a decade ago. The original CD features Don Byron as guest artist and is well worth a listen.

The Dixie Demons perform “Fidgety Feet” at Sticky Fingers in Barrie

I had a great time performing yesterday (April 13, 2014) with the Dixie Demons in Barrie at Sticky Fingers restaurant for the Simcoe County Jazz Society. The band was cooking as it always does. the video clip below was shot with my iPad sitting on a music stand which was unceremoniously moved by a customer during the recording as you will see. The band members are co leaders Ross Wooldridge on clarinet and Dan Douglas on trombone plus Steve Crowe on trumpet, Phil Disera on banjo, John Collin on drums and Doug Burrell (yours truly) on tuba.

An Exciting Weekend of Playing!

Last night I had the pleasure of working with Bobby D and the Dixie Cats (old friends Bob DeAngelis, John McLeod, Phil Disera and new friend Lorne Nehring) at the Liberty Grand entertainment complex. The event was a fundraiser for the Assaulted Women’s Help Line, an organization that provides an essential lifeline for women fleeing from abusive relationships.

Today I will be playing with the Dixie Demons at the Royal Canadian Legion in Waterloo and tomorrow I will be playing with the Demons again at Sticky Fingers in Barrie.
